Throwback Thursday

When you're having a bit of a spring clean in the studio and come across a pile of books you've not looked at in a long while - you get a bit distracted and suddenly it's gone dark outside !

Well that has been me today and yes that photo is me, bottom left, with some of my work on the right - 20 years ago when I was studying Fashion Design at what is now the Arts University Bournemouth. In the days when computers and CAD for fashion were still new kids on the block and when books were still our 'go to' resource for information.
I've been lucky enough to have had my work in various publications over the years but I can safely say this is one of only a handful of times where I ended up actually in a photograph (long may the trend continue !)

The book, out of curiosity is one by Patrick John Ireland, one of my tutors at the time and one of the world's leading fashion illustrators. I spent four happy years at the University (or BPCAD as it was known then) studying everything from pattern cutting and garment construction through to illustration and the history of fashion and culture.

After four years of study my final collection was triumphantly named 'Stomp'. I chose childrenswear and I have wonderful memories of local school kids turned models skipping down the catwalk in my creations to DJ Quicksilver's Belissima. They were fun times and it's great to see there is still an appetite amongst today's generation to be involved in the Arts with the University providing a plethora of courses in all imaginable creative subjects.

I've been very lucky to have known from an early age that my choice of career path would be a creative one. I spent the next 18 years working for one of the UK's biggest Fashion Retailers and now, as a self-employed artist I fill my days with photography and creating my kind of art, along and the occasional trip down memory lane !
