From Pixels to Paint - The Flourish Flock Community Art Project

I was lucky enough to receive this artists pack a couple of weeks ago, complete with my very own Dartford warbler to paint !

The #FlourishFlock Art Project aims to raise vital funds through the auctioning of 100 of these birds at the end of the summer to support the Flourish programme based at Holton Lee. (Click here to read more about the amazing work they do to support individuals living with disability and mental health issues). The warblers have been sent to local artists as well as prominent figures in the art and conservation world.

My 'Rarer than Rainforest' print overlaid with the warbler template

The theme for my painting is 'Rarer than Rainforest', inspired by my research into the habitat of the Dartford warbler. According to the Wildlife Trust the heathland that sustains these birds and provides nesting sites is 'rarer than rainforest' with over 80% of heathland having been destroyed since the 19th Century. It is hoped that using the Dartford warbler as the theme for this Art Project will help raise awareness of this 'amber list' species and the importance of protecting this special little bird in Dorset.

Painting instead of printing has been fun ! I love to paint but don't often get the time so this was a great excuse to shut down the PC and get messy !

A quick check back with the original image to make sure I'm painting within the lines !

And after some finishing details, my warbler is ready to fly back to the flock at Holton Lee ready for the exhibition that starts 26th May. Keep up to date with the latest designs as they return to the flock using #FlourishFlock
