From Seaside to City - a black and white experiment

They say a change is a good as a rest?
Like many creative people I collect 'things' with the intention of incorporating them into a project 'at some point in the future'. In addition to gorgeous fabrics, sumptuous yarns and handmade papers my biggest collection is of course photographs which sit quietly in folders on my hard drive until artistic inspiration strikes.

One such folder is 'Duomi'. I'm a big fan of gorgeous architecture and without realising it my collection of photos had morphed from just 'Duomi' (Italian for Cathedral), to all manner of domed buildings.

With photos of over 40 such buildings filed away from various trips they have been sitting patiently waiting for me to be in the right experimental frame of mind. And here it is - in a break from my more usual vivid colour palette I've been exploring the 'dark side'!

In an attempt to portray these imposing buildings in a more abstract way I've combined a restricted palette with plain white backgrounds to create striking graphic representations.

The first collection of my experimental prints can be seen at the Lighthouse in Poole as part of my 'Spring / Summer '17 collections' exhibition. Click here for more details

My collection of photos and resulting prints will no doubt continue to grow, there are still so many places to visit - click here for more amazing examples
